Thumbs up What Dry Feed Do You Give? (British brands)

What Dry Feed Do You Give?

This idea is brought to you by member eppingstrider.

Please vote here for the feed(s) you give to your guinea pigs, and tell us why you use them.

I also think a star rating out of 5 would be useful, so please give your feed from * to ***** stars!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I'll begin...

Burgess Excel Pellets
I use Burgess Excel Pellets for all of my guinea pigs because it's a pellet based feed to prevent selective feeding (eating only the bits they like) and because I believe it's a nutritionally well balanced feed. My piggies all love it and bowls are always licked clean. The price is alright too - around £18 for a large bag that does us for around two weeks on up to 30 guinea pigs. It's also easily obtained via most pet shops and retailers in my area.

My rating: *****

Wagg Guinea Pig Crunch
I also use this feed when in need of a low calcium alternative for piggies with bladder and kidney stones - it's the feed lowest in calcium that we (Doris!) could find on the market. They really enjoy this feed and although it's a mix rather than pellet based, most of it gets eaten. I can't find it in large bags, but the price on the smaller bags is okay and I can usually find the smaller bags quite easily.

My rating: ***

My lot are fed the Wagg Optimum because they were selective with the Crunch. My newest pig Henry is on a mix of Wagg Optimum and P@H nuggets as that was what he was on previously.

The feed we use usually isn’t on there.

Charnwoods (My rating *****)
Sometimes hard to get hold of, but when I can its great feed. The pigs all love it, we have no waste as its nuggets, and it comes in large 20kg bags and is around £10 a bag so a good price. It is ideal for those with large numbers of piggies, and the condition of the pigs is good when feeding this feed.

We also use Super Guinea Excel for the Degus only, this is because it has the lowest mollases of all the added vitamin C feeds available on the market.

Super Guinea Excel Blackcurrant and Oregano I can recommend for heavily pregnant sows and babies as they are smaller pellets so easier to teach babies to eat on them.

All food fed is Star approved (he’ll eat any thing! So if Star turns his nose up its highly likely the rest will too!)

I have used Charnwoods in the past, and had a disasterous event (I'll disclose by pm if required) so would never use them again.

I've used various things, but my pigs get bored afte a while and go on strike! They're on Chudleys rabbit royale *I think* its blue, with dandelions in it

My girls are picky and after P@H pellets (which were left regularly), Wagg Crunch (they were selective feeding extreme) and Burgess Excel Oregano and Blackcurrant (at a push mum). the normal Burgess Excel fairs the best at the moment but they don't always eat it all and I only quarter fill the bowl.

Burgess Excel (orange packet) **** but that may change!!

We use Wagg crunch. We have in the past had guerty guinea pigg (now found our about the additives) and Burgess excell - but the piggies wont eat that - Harley lost alot of weight around the time we tried it. I like wagg because it is very easy to get hold off (can order online with rest of supermarket shopping), the piggies do selective feed, but we wait before topping up the bowl
