I truly think, heyheyhi, that you're taking on a huge commitment if you're now thinking about having two pregnant sows. The possibilities for risk are great as you haven't kept guinea pigs before and so don't know the health problems they can have anyway.
If both sows had successful pregnancies there would of course be several babies - you would then have to identify any males and remove them from the females after only a few weeks. Boars don't live together well and harder to re-home, so as they got older, if you hadn't been able to re-home them, you could have several separate cages with one boar in each. I'm not trying to spoil your plans, but I really think that while you're still studying it would be a huge risk

Snailspace - don't worry, I'm just going to get a pair of non-pregnant females, or maybe a female and a neutered male, from a rescue

I think its really cute about a non-pregnant sow "babysitting". I have also thought about breeding after I get out of Vet College. I will be moving to the UK(I currently resign in the US) with my Best Friend(Who likes Gerbils but past the point). So I have been thinking about what kind of breeds I would want to breed, what kind of cages would be appropriate for breeding and so on. I even have my website speech for my future Cavy breeding home But I have been looking for breeding tips and such so I've been reading different threads here. |

Do you intend studying to become a vet in the USA or over here?
